The Artistic CADs Staffer: Jak Mayo

Jak Mayo
BFA Information Design, Block E1
              CADs Production Staffer

One look and you'll think: Artistic. Jak is the all-around artistic type. He can draw, take wonderful pictures, dance, and even design and make clothes and costumes. (By the way, he conceptualized the costumes for their group's Lit play and even made some of them himself!) Yes, you can say he has an eye for art.

A true artist indeed, he is the kind of person who seems very confident and sure of himself. If his face looks strikingly familiar, it must be because you watched Cascade, CADs' (or the Company of Ateneo Dancers) year-end concert. We asked him a bit about his appearance on that show. He shared that since he was part of the production staff, they had to fix up a little dance.

"We needed a lead character and a way to make the whole thing funnier and super benta. We (actually, they) decided to create a fairy princess character that would make the audience laugh so much, and I fit the role perfectly. #halfchos"

Why did you choose Ateneo?
I suppose it's because I've been in Ateneo for 13 years already, and I want to finish where I started. Ateneo become a lifestyle and a home already. But for a while, I was really considering going to La Salle, but then I realized it was too far from where I lived. So, there. True Blue all the way.

Favorite hangouts in Ateneo?
You'll probably see me staying in the CADs Room

How do you balance your time?
Honestly, I don't know how to prioritize what I need to do. For me, it's better to do what I want first before anything else. I get by like that.

What fun things do you do in your free time?
Most of the time, I'm with my blockmates. If ever I'm not, I'm with CADs, or my barkada, or alone in Xocolat or Starbucks. That's all I do, really. Hang out and, most of the time, read books alone with a cup of my favorite personalized Caramel Macchiato.

If given the chance to do a speech, what would you want to be quoted for?
I live by a mantra, which I heard a very long time ago. Since then, it's been stuck in my mind and heart. It goes, "Never regret anything because at one time it was exactly what you wanted."I know it's kind of cliche already but it's what keeps me going everyday, not regretting at all. It actually makes me feel better about myself all day everyday.

Who is your favorite Pokemon?
Metapod! WAHAHAHAHA. Metapod uses harden! (pun intended)

Or what were your favorite shows from the 90s?
Biker Mice from Mars, Ghostbusters, Captain Planet, SWAT Kats, Gargoyles, Fushigi Yugi, KaBlam!, Pepper Ann, Recess, Little Lulu, Rave Master, and a lot more, really. I was a TV kid back then.

Here's Metapod!
We are about to end another school year once again. For most, it was a blast. For some, maybe it wasn't. But whatever happened, let's take Jak's advice and live with no regrets.
